Anorexic stamp

Description

This is an issue that's been bothering me for some time now. I am 5'2, ~100 lbs, making me a very thin person. A lot of people over the years have accused me of "starving myself" and told me over and over "eat a burger or something!". To make this very clear, I eat a LOT (Probably more than I should to be healthy), but I just so happen to have the genetics to be able to remain thin. However, I also try to eat fairly well, and maintain a lower to normal calorie intake (Unfortunately, I am -really- bad at being active. I should exercise more, and I intend to following the end of this semester). However, I have never suffered an eating disorder.

But this stamp isn't just about me. I've noticed that starting a few years ago, any, and I do mean ANY modeling picture on deviantART of a thin girl will have at least ONE comment from an angry deviant accusing her of starving herself, trumpeting how they (the commenter) prefers "healthy" girls.

Now, let me be clear that this is not to say that anorexia and bulimia are not REAL issues that occur very often in the modeling industry. They do occur, on a disturbing scale. At the same time, however, being "thin" does not automatically translate to "sick". This is also NOT to say that being thin is the only form of acceptable beauty. Merely, this stamp is to educate people that you can, in fact, be thin and perfectly healthy at the same time.

In the last couple years, there's been a huge movement to accept overweight people (which is, of course, a positive change. No one should be judged solely on their weight), however, I feel that at the same time, that created a slight disdain for thinness, automatically linking it to eating disorders and the expectations of a "media-run society".

I hope this can give a few people a perspective they may not have previously heard. Anti-discrimination against people's body size should go BOTH ways, because it's not JUST the overweight that are receiving hate and discrimination.

I'm pretty slim, and my mom always says that I'm so thin. And I always eat.
